Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts

South Campus
11901 Beach Boulevard
Jacksonville, Florida 32246

The Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts is a comprehensive performing and visual arts facility at Florida State College at Jacksonville's South Campus. The Center serves as a state of the art learning facility for students and a quality arts venue for the entire community. Housed in glass, a two story lobby leads patrons to the art gallery, a main proscenium theatre with 530 seats, the studio theatre designed for productions with smaller audiences and the Conference Center which is available for business meetings, conferences, fund raisers and social gatherings. The Center's programming includes a variety of offerings such as opera, dance, multidisciplinary productions that integrate visual art, music, theatre and the humanities. The 530 seats proscenium theatre, which is both intimate and elegant, seats no member of the audience further than 70 feet from the action on stage. It provides a perfect stage for opera, dance, and multidisciplinary productions that integrate the visual arts, theatre, music and humanities, featuring both students and professional artists. Many productions provide students an opportunity to work on stage and backstage with professionals. While the theatre itself is small and intimate, its stage is anything but small. It is one of the largest stages in town and will accommodate any type of show. To adjust the acoustics to the type of performance, the theatre's walls have three sets of acoustical curtains. There is also an orchestra shell, which can be set for a full or chamber orchestra. In addition to excellent acoustics, the theatre is equipped with the best sound and lighting technology in North Florida. Architecturally speaking, the main theatre is a European design with a modern bent. There are box seats, and all balconies have an artisan railing designed by local artist David Ponsler. Theatre Projects, a world renowned theatrical consulting firm, assisted Florida State College at Jacksonville in developing the theatre, along with the architectural design firm of Thompson, Ventullet, Stainback and Associates of Atlanta. The Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts is located on the South Campus of Florida State College at Jacksonville at 11901 Beach Boulevard. The main entrance of the college is located at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Central Parkway (East of St. Johns Bluff Road and west of Kernan Boulevard). The Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts is the building directly in front of you, just beyond the stop sign, once you enter campus. Visitors and buses are welcome to park for free in the lot adjacent to the building.
